It is pretty crowded and the big handset makers all already have their OS of choice (winmob, symbian, osx, etc..). So if they’re talking to some of the more independent makers and if they haven’t secured a carrier (or multiple carriers) to sell their phone, I don’t know how much impact they can have. Of course, they are Google and that brings with it a good deal of power. :) I’m certainly curious to see how this plays out! And more choice (especially more *good* choices) is always better for me. Heh!

Google is rumored to be negotiating with phone makers now. I’m guessing they are shooting to have Googleized phones available for Christmas, which would be another brilliant timing stroke. At a price point of about $100 (this was speculated – I don’t think they can get them this cheap) phones optimized for Google internet browsing could become the biggest Christmas present item in history.
