A great deal of advertising dollars are spent on less than stellar evidence of any return. We all hear of the Fuji billboard at Times Square and of the zillions who pass by it some are undoubtedly going to buy some film, perhaps even in a few minutes, but no one knows if the billboard is really worth anything. It is perhaps the same way with online advertising. No one measures it, no one really knows how effective it is.

My personal views:
Those pop up ads are often Applebees... so I never eat there any more. Not ever. A bit less often, they are circuit city ads. I don't go there anymore either.
If I see ads in a box at a top of a webpage, I don't EVER click there. Usually however I do not see any ads at the top of a webpage as my mind does not even register what is being displayed there.
If I see those tiny Google Ads, I may read them for their humor value (since often they are useless) but would never read them with serious intent or ever click on them!

I'm not saying that an internet ad equates to an email from a banker in Ghana, but it sure is not far above it.

Is there anyone out there who really and truly pays ANY attention to these ads?
