1. Nobody told me there would be days like these, strange days indeed. I Too Have a Dream – and – I Declare War Gregg Franklin Lipson January 17, 2007 My fellow Americans, I awake and open my eyes, as if for the first time, to find myself on Martin Luther King Junior’s Birthday Holiday, God rest his soul, in the year 2007 and I am angry. Angry that in 1963 Mr. King proclaimed his beautiful dream for racial equality and freedom for our Nation and boldly declared that the peace march on Washington occurring that day would, “…go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation”, and although his prophecy came to be true, here we are 44 years later, and we are not even close to his dream. Not even close. I am not even sure we are heading in the right direction. I am angry today my world wide friends, and I too have a dream. Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity. God, when will we ever learn? How long will it take us to change? 44 years later, the black American is still not free. The U.S. Government defines ‘Economically Distressed Areas’ as those with a high level of crime and unemployment. Statistically, a white person has a 1 in 56 chance of being born in one, a black man or woman, 1 in 3. If you are born into such a sad and difficult area and do not have a Free, Fair, Equal, and Just public education system, then God as my witness, you are not free! If your public school system is filled with violence and lacks the basic books, computers, and quality teachers that you damn well deserve as an American citizen, then have you been granted your inalienable right to the pursuit of happiness? Do you have truth, justice, and the American way? If your only options to break free from the bondage of poverty, drugs, alcohol, and crime are sports, music, a minimum wage job, which puts you below the poverty line, or dealing drugs and other crimes, what would you choose. Be honest, and consider what it would be like to walk a mile in their moccasins. And for the record, anecdotal evidence of the miraculous young women who leaves the failed, unsafe, government provided schools and spends hours in the library until she gets into college and becomes a doctor, while a wonderful and courageous story does not excuse or explain the colossal failure of the system for the masses. And any so called solution, like vouchers, which allow those with money, power, and influence to go around the problem, rather than solve the problem, and leaves the problem unsolved for the rest, is a flat out joke. Until government provided free, safe, quality, education becomes an option everyone in out land, then black mean and women, and all Americans are not truly free. I too have a dream today. The U.S. Supreme Court, in the days before they became a rubber stamping body for a corrupt and tyrannical administration, declared in Brown vs. The Board of Education that separate but equal, is not equal. 44 years later, this still holds true. Why should inner city public schools have 1/20 the budget of rich, suburban schools? How is this equal? With no money for the internet, computers, books, security, and teachers, are we providing a safe harbor for our children to learn and grow and reach for their dreams? Why not base school funding on the taxes of the state, or better yet, the nation, rather than local county taxes? Why not give each school an equitable share per student and teacher, possibly adjusted for the cost of living in the area? This would create a system when increasing education funding for the rich will have as a byproduct increasing education funding for the poor. If it works for roads then why not for the happiness, freedom, and future of our children? Separate and unequal is not equal. And there are those who ignorantly claim that the absentee black father and single black mother are the cause of the failed school system. Nothing could be further from the truth. If equal, safe, quality, free public education is not an option to free you and yours from the bonds of poverty, violence, crime, and despair, then what options are left to you? If you can not excel at sports or rapping, then is McDonalds and drug dealing your only other options? If this is not the case, then raise your voice and correct me. If it were me, and I was walking a mile in my brother’s or sister’s moccasins, and I was presented with a minimum wage job which would put my family below the ‘real’ poverty line or could choose to sell drugs at 100 times or more money per day, and I wanted out of the horrible conditions I found myself in, I would, without fail, become the best drug dealer I could be. Granted, I would probably end up dead or in jail, but it would be my best option, given the insane situation I found myself in, and my best hope out to peace, love, and sanity. These tainted choices we offer our children results in incarcerated or dead black fathers and unwed black mothers. They are not the cause of the failed school system, they are the victim! Yes it is true, if they participate in their child’s lives, keep them close to their breast, and monitor their schoolwork and progress, and attempt to keep them from the evil which exists on all sides, their children will have a better chance at breaking free. But they must work forty or more hours and one or more jobs a week to put bread on the table and do everything in their power to protect and nurture their own. They have been forced to be absent from their children’s laughter as they toil away to feed and protect their own knowing full well danger, evil, and corruption surround their young ones. Stop blaming these mothers and start helping them. Tutor their children. Baby sit them. Donate for their warm coats, socks, and shoes. Buy them bread and meat for their hungry stomachs. Take them to the prisons and jails which cover in dots our once and future great Nation. Teach them of the life losing dangers of drugs, alcohol, nicotine, gambling, and crime. Stop blaming and start helping! A time comes when silence is betrayal. That time is NOW. Get up and do something about it. Open your mouth, your heart, your schedule, and your wallet. If you find yourself a have, give back to the have nots. Follow what JFK called ‘Oblese Oblique’, the Noble Obligation. I pray you do. I pray we all do. And if you find yourself still shackled by poverty and injustice, jailed or free, and are suffering hunger, pain, or fear, hang on. Everyone hurts sometime. Hang on. Quit drinking and drugging, and begin a new path today, right now. Oh God I pray that you hear my cry and begin a new day of redemption and optimism. Hang on. “What strength do I have, that I should still hope? What prospects, that I should be patient? Do I have the strength of stone? Is my flesh bronze? Do I have any power to help myself, now that success has been driven from me? Teach me, and I will be quiet; show me where I have been wrong. How painful are honest words! If he comes along and confines you in prison and convenes a court, who can oppose him? Yet if you devote your heart to him and stretch out your hands to him, if you put away the sin that is in your hand and allow no evil to dwell in you tent, then you will lift up your face without shame; you will stand firm and without fear. You will surely forget your trouble, recalling it only as waters gone by. Life will be brighter than noonday and darkness will become like morning. You will be secure, because there is hope; you will look about you and take your rest in safety. You will lie down, with no one to make you afraid, and many will court your favor. But the eyes of the wicked will fail, and escape will elude them; their hope will become a dying gasp. To God belong wisdom and power; counsel and understanding are his. If he holds back the waters, there is drought; if he lets them loose, they devastate the land. He takes off the shackles put on by kings and ties a loincloth around their waist. He leads priests away stripped and overthrows men long established. He pours contempt on nobles and disarms the mighty. He makes nations great, and destroys them; he enlarges nations, and disperses them. He deprives the leaders of the earth of their reason; he sends them wandering through a trackless waste. They grope in darkness with no light; he makes them stagger like drunkards…You who tear yourself to pieces in your anger, is the earth to be abandoned for your sake? Or must the rocks be moved from their place? The lamp of the wicked is snuffed out; the flame of his fire stop burning. The light in his tent becomes dark; the lamp beside him goes out. The vigor of his step is weakened; his own schemes throw him down. A trap seizes him by the heel; a snare holds him fast. The memory of him perishes from the earth; he has no name in the land. He is driven from light into darkness and is banished from the world. He has no offspring or descendants among his people, no survivor where once he lived. Men of the west are appalled at his fate; men of the east are seized with horror. Surely such is the dwelling on an evil man; such is the place of one who knows not God… Submit to God and be at peace with him; in this way prosperity will come to you. Accept instructions from his mouth and lay up his words in your heart. If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored: If you remove the wickedness far from your tent and assign your nuggets to the dust, then the Almightily will be your gold, the choicest silver for you. You will pray to him, and he will hear you, and you will fulfill your vows. What you decide on will be done and light will shine on your ways. When men are brought low and you say, ‘Lift them up!’ then he will save the downcast. If I have denied the desire of the poor or let the eyes of the widow grow weary, if I have kept my bread to myself, not sharing it with the fatherless – but from my youth I reared him as would a father, and from my birth I guided the widow – if I have seen anyone perishing for lack of clothing, or a needy man without a garment, and his heart did not bless me from warming him with the fleece from my sheep, knowing that I had influence in court, then let my arm fall from the shoulder, let it be broken off at the joint. My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you. Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.” Job In a sense we’ve come to our nation’s capital to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the “unalienable Rights” of “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note, insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked “insufficient funds.” 44 years later American has defaulted on its promissory note. Some might argue that the current minimum wage does not put people below the poverty line, and technically, they would be correct, but only because our former coke-head, alcoholic, leader continues to lower the poverty line, achieving his goal of improving his numbers while turning a blind eye to the suffering of the lower, uneducated, classes who brought him into power, on the back of his cries for prohibiting abortion, condemning gays, and the Democrats weakness on the military. It takes a brilliant man to get people who will be hurt under him to vote for him, and he pulled it off, well, that is with the help of the Governor and Secretary of State of Florida. But that is not important right now. John F. Kennedy, God rest his soul, declared, “The separation of Church and State Must Be Absolute”. What a mockery the so called leader of the free world has made of this. How can the most powerful man in the free world and a homeless bum live on the same block? Fair, free, and just schools will be our salvation. Until then, life and liberty does not exist in this once and future great nation. Follow the money. Adjusting for inflation, the two highest oil prices in U.S. History have been under George Bush Sr. and George Bush Jr. Like my father taught me, follow the money. Mr. Jr. declared last year that 10% of U.S. fuel production must be hydro ethanol by 1010. Guess who is America’s #1 producer of hydro ethanol? Answer: Halliburton. Once again, follow the money. In 95% of the cases it will be your answer, in the other 5%, it is an important perspective you must consider in making your determination of the causes behind a situation. If you want to know why something is happening, simply follow the money. For instance, oil companies and the military industrial complex where the two largest contributors to Mr. Mr.’s last campaign. Guess who are the two biggest winners of our invasion and occupation of Iraq? If you said oil companies and the military industrial complex, you would be right. But of course, after the attack on the world trade centers and the pentagon, we had to respond, right? Wasn’t that Afghanistan and not Iraq, and where are the weapons of mass destruction? For that matter, where are the plan engines that allegedly hit the Pentagon? Our government, of the people, by the people, and for the people, claims the two four ton aluminum allow engines, which only melt at thousands of degrees farenheight, vaporized in the explosion. Vaporized. No debris, like all plane crashes in world recorded history, but simply vaporized along with all the people. But, an unscathed passport they claimed was a terrorist was found on the lawn among the perfectly placed debris. How can 4 ton engines vaporized at temperatures that would not melt them and yet a paper passport remains unburned on the lawn? It does not add up. I smell a rat. Oil soaked, profit and power hungry, rat. Why is there only a 10 ft hole in the Pentagon, exactly like all Missile strikes recorded around the world and a U.S. military plan has been documented flying above the Pentagon? A plane doesn’t make a 10 ft hole and leave no debris, a missile does. Why did the towers fall just like a detonated Vegas casino with small explosions recoded on film occurring at every floor? Why did the 3rd building that fell, in the middle of 5 others that remain intact, happen to be the one where the government was bringing huge court cases of corruption against our corporate elitist? Why was there 7 times more short selling on the airline stocks on the three days leading up to 9/11? Where all U.S. Congressman flights were cancelled that day? I do not purport to have the answers to these questions. But as a God fearing American citizen, I demand that they be asked and answered! I am angry today my friends. But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. And so, we’ve come to cash this check, a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice. I demand security of justice today. I demand our government show the video showing a plane hitting the pentagon. The government can end all of the so called ‘conspiracy nuts’ by simply showing the video footage captured by nearby hotel and traffic cameras. Why has all the footage been confiscated and held on the pretense of national security. It is a national security matter until the footage is shown! What would be the harm in showing a so called plane hit the Pentagon and create a 10 foot hole with no debris, if they have already convinced everyone, including the press, that this is exactly what happened? Why not show the video? Where are the engines? Where are the engines… Robert F. Kennedy, God rest his soul, would want to see the video, and I am just following suit.. I am angry today my friends. But one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free. One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. One hundred years later, the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. One hundred years later, the Negro is still languished in the corners of American society and finds himself an exile in his own land. And so we’ve come here today to dramatize a shameful condition. 44 years later, with an unjust and unequal public school system offered by our Nation’s leaders, the black American, and all lower income members of our global melting pot, are not free. 44 years later the chains of discrimination and bondage of poverty keep us all slaves! The lower class, enticed by a Government funded marketing campaign shouting the Lottery as the answer to millions, aired 24/7 on our Nation’s televisions, radios, and the internet, lures those uneducated of the odds of success and the money it will cost them over their lifetime. Lotteries are 90% funded by the lower and middle class, but lower the taxes of all, effectively lowering the taxes of the rich on the backs of the poor, and promoted men who call themselves honorable leaders. 44 years later, the lower class still lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. Mr. Jr., like Sr. before him, has increased the top 1% of the nation’s elite owning greater than 90% of our once great nation’s wealth. Why do they need so much when so many have so little? What are they doing with that 90%? Are they giving back? Are they doing their fair share, or are enjoying slick tax loopholes only afforded to the rich corporations and wealthy citizens, basking in the profits of an administration that favors the rich and ignore the plight of the poor, and claims this is in the name of God. Franklin Delanor Roosevelt, God rest his soul, said, “when the elitist control the masses, and call it a new world order, it is not new, and it is not order”! 44 years later, the poor still languish in the corners of the American society and find themselves exile in their own land. I can no longer hold my tongue and be damned the consequences. I am speaking out today to dramatize a shameful condition. I am angry today my friends. So I beg of you today my friends, no longer purchase lottery tickets but instead put that dollar into the charity container for food and clothing and housing and medical attention and education for our children. And if there is no charity container than ask the manager and owner of the establishment why not, and ask him or her to get one, and inform them you can no longer with a clear conscious shop in their store until there is one. And do not, I beg of you, leave your pennies for the next customer’s convenience, which has plenty, but rather drop them into the charity cup as well, as pennies swell to dollars and to food for our world’s children. We can and we will make the world a better place, one day at a time, or God help us all. It has come time, and the time is now, my fellow United Nation citizens, to stop buying lotteries hoping they change our lives and be the lottery win that changes a child in need’s life forever. It is time, my fellow Americans, and my fellow World Citizens, to ask not what this world can do for you, but what you can do for this world. We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of Now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God’s children. Now is the time. Now is the time to denounce our administration’s policy of No Child Left Behind as the hypo racy it is. This hollow, poorly planned, and badly implemented, much like our invasion and occupation policy, is costing us the lives of our children! Enough is enough. We are leaving History Education behind, failing to teach the world wide social and human rights struggle that has brought us to our current condition of freedom for all men and women of all races. We are leaving athletics behind, even as every study shows that children involved in athletics get higher grades and exceed more successfully in all facets of life. Young women particularly, not girls, women, involved in sports experience high grades, make more money, have less children out of wedlock, get divorced less, commit less suicide, experience less depression, and the list goes on an on. We are leaving music behind, even as study after study show that children involved in music get better grades and exceed in many aspects of life. We are leaving our hearts and souls behind. We are leaving our children behind. Enough is enough. The time for change is Now. I am angry today my friends. It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment. This sweltering summer of the Negro’s legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. Nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning. And those who hope that the Negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to business as usual. And there will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro is granted his citizenship rights. The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges. In the spirit of Rosa Parks, and like Gandhi, Malcolm X, JFK, RFK, Edgar Mevers, John Lennon, Lincoln, and Martin Luther King Jr. before me, I peacefully stand in revolt today and I declare war. Not war with guns or violence but war with peaceful protest. In the spirit of my father, A Michael Lipson and his idols Muhammad Ali and Michael Luther King Jr., I can not and will not hold my tongue any longer. It is not how I was raised. When I see that we have invaded another land, are in the middle of their civil war, don’t have God on our side, and can not and will not win, as children die on all sides, I can no longer be silent. Instead I humbly ask God to keep me strong and to fight against this unholy war and unholy administration. Who died and made Bush Jr. God? NOT MY FATHER. I can not return to business as usual as unequal schools rob our children of their right to freedom. And I will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges! I am not blind and I see that like the brave men and women before me who fought for world peace and equality, I will probably be struck down by a bullet before I get to see the promised land. But that is OK, as the torch will have been passed on to a new generation of Americans, and someday, someone, will pick up that torch and carry on. And when they are struck down someone else with pick it from their lifeless hand and raise it high to the heavens again. So until DC is free from taxation without representation, until DC has equal, high quality, safe, free public education for all its citizens, rich and poor, black and white, and free, public health care is available to all its children, I will fight on. Will create DC as a shining example to the world, that this microcosm of the world, with the beautiful variety of races, skin colors, nationalities, religions, and sexualities can live and work together in a free and safe society, side by side, hand in hand, under God. God only knows if I will be successful at reaching my dream. Most probably, if world history patterns are any indication of our future, I will be murdered for my efforts, but hear me well and hear me clearly, I will not stop fighting until DC and our world is free. I have a dream today and I declare war on all those who oppose me or get in my way. If you can not fight for yourself, then give me your hammer, and I will fight for you. Peaceful protest against tyranny and oppression and unjust and unholy law is God’s hammer and I will peacefully fight, with my voice rather than my fists, until the world is united, under one government, the United Nations of the World, with one United Nations Supreme Court, one United Nations Congress and Senate, one United Nation Military and Police Force, one United Nations Health Care, one United Nations Free Public Education, one United Nations Social Safety Net, One World, One World. And when that day comes, and make no mistake, it will, we will all shine on, like the sun, and the moon, and the stars. And I pledge to you today, citizens of the world, through the DC T Party I will fight to make my global dream of peace and equality and justice and love a reality, or die trying; for this battle is worth it, and I know someone will pick up the torch when I have fallen. Heaven is a place called Earth. A working class hero is something to be. I might be a dreamer, but I am not the only one. And I may end up just a brief shooting star, but the entire world will love you just as long as you are a shooting star. And I pledge to the world today that I will pay my dues, time after time, I will do my sentence but commit no crime, and bad mistakes, I will make a few, I will have my fair share of sand kicked in my face, but I will, I pray to Almighty God, come through. We are the champions, my friends, and we must keep on fighting till the end, we are the champions, there is no time for losers, because we are the champions, of the world. I will take no bows and no curtain calls. You might bring me fame and fortune and everything that goes with it, and for that, I will thank you all, but it will be no bed of roses, no pleasure cruise, and I consider it a challenge before the whole human race, and I am not going to lose. Because if I am struck down the next will rise up and hoist that torch high and scream to the heavens for the entire world to heaven, Freedom! We have got to let love rule. We must stop praying to false idols of oil, and power, and money, and from this day forth strike out on a new mission to forever stop oiling the ball bearings of the great engines of war, for it is all ball bearings nowadays…and rather feed and cloth the children of the world and free our world citizen’s from the bondage of unequal education, lack of homes, lack of food, lack of health care, lack of respect and pride every human being deserves. People will say I am crazy, but it will take all my time. I will remember when I was young and shone like the sun and I will shine on, like a crazy diamond. I am caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom, blown on the steel, oil, breeze, and I will be a target for faraway laughter, but that will not stop me, for I will continue to shine! And for those who will call me crazy or un-pure, I will say to them, do you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain? Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell? And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage or a leaf rolled in a page? What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here. But I know in my soul that there are those out there who do hear me and they are home. I know they are feeling down and I can ease their pain and get them on their feet again. There is no pain, you are receding. A distant ships smoke on the horizon. You are only coming through in waves. Your lips move but I can’t hear what you are saying. When I was a child I did have a fever. Un-medicated bi-polar illness, and the ravages of drug and alcohol abuse, left me empty and insane, but I did have a vision, a dream came to me one day, and I felt like I could fly. My hands felt just like two balloons. But there were many struggles I had to go through to regain my sanity, to get clean and sober, to reclaim my soul, and to thank God for keeping me alive during my insane times. Most of my adult life, while I have achieved much monetary and career success, with wonderful friends, and family, I could not shake the inner chill that haunted by dreams, that the child is grown, the dream is gone. I have become comfortably numb. Well by the ides of March I will have 17 months sober, and believe it or not, for that matters not, ever since my one year anniversary of being clean and sober I have got that feeling once again. The dream has returned. I have a dream too today, my friends. I can not explain it exactly, you would not understand. But please know that from this day forth, this is how I am. I am no longer and will never again be, comfortably numb. And it is alright that no one knows what its like to be the bad man, to be the sad man, behind blue eyes. No one knows what its like to be hated, to be fated! To telling only lies. But my dreams, they are no longer empty, but filled to the brim, as my conscience seems to be. I have hours, only lonely, my love is vengeance that is never free. And it is alright that no one knows what its like to feel these feelings like I do, but I do not blame you. I can tell you from the depths of my soul that no one bites back as hard on their anger, none of my pain and woe can show through. But my dreams will never again be empty and rather will be filled to the brim with the tears of God, as my conscience seems to be. And when my fist clenches, I crack it open before I use it and lose my cool. And please, when I smile, tell me some bad news before I laugh and act like a fool. If I swallow anything evil, put your finger down my throat. If I shiver, please give me a blanket. Keep me warm, let me wear your coat, because no one knows what its like to be the sad man, to be the bad man, to be hated, to be fated, behind blue eyes. No one told me there would be days like these. And for those who claim I have once again lost my sanity and my comfortably numb times where the sane ones, or who listen to my message, but do not yet hear, I embrace you and say, if you want to find out what’s behind these cold eyes, you’ll just have to claw your way through this disguise. When you hear my words rather than just listen, I’ll be right here. And I ask that we all keep preaching the word of freedom and equality and justice and love, worldwide. And if you hear the frightened ones, if you hear the falling bombs, if you wonder why we had to run for shelter when the promise of a brave new world unfurled beneath a clear blue sky, and it turns out your Government is locked in an unholy war, in the middle of another nation’s civil war, on foreign soil we invaded without being attached, and God is not on our side, then refuse to go. Refuse to pay taxes that will go to that unholy oil war. Stand and deliver. Peaceful protest and peaceful resistance till bring down the gears of war. Without their precious oil for their ball bearings, even the greatest war machine the world has ever seen will come grinding to a halt, and someday soon, the teachers and police will have plenty of money to spare, and the military will be forced to have bake sales. It is not too late if we embark on the world’s last great battle, begging today. And if do not unite worldwide and fight the powers that be, that as we get high, it will be goodbye, blue sky. I know there are some out there in the cold, getting lonely, getting old, who can feel me. They might be standing in the aisles with itchy feet and fading smiles, but they feel me. So to you who still somewhere buried deep in your soul, believe, I say, Hello. Don’t help them to bury the light and don’t give in without a fight. Hey you out there on your own, sitting naked by the phone, with your ear against the wall, waiting for someone to call out, would you touch me? Will you help me to carry the stone, to open your heart, because I am coming home. And for those who still think this is only fantasy and that the Wall is just too high, standing in the middle of the road, always doing what you are told, can you help me? Hey you, out there beyond the wall, breaking bottles in the hall, will you join me? Do not ever tell me there is no hope at all, together we stand, divided we fall. There will be those who say I have stolen these words, like a thief in the night, I have made them my own, and I’m not even sure that’s a crime anymore. There’ve been a lot of changes in the law. And for those who say there are two G’s in my name you tell them there are three, but not right next to each other. I thought that’s what you meant and if they shoot me they are liable to lose a lot of humanitarian awards.. And if they ask you what I do for a living, you tell them correctly that I am a shepherd. And if they ask you if I am crazy, crazy insane, as they surely will, you tell them correctly, no, never, never. For I must be crazy to be in a loony bin like this. And our country will once again someday soon be the most special place in the entire world. Once a place touches you like this, the wind never blows so cold again. You feel for it, like it was your child. Is this heaven? No, and it’s not the U.S., it is us, the place where dreams come true. And I’m not just talking about my life, I’m talking about life, I’m not just talking about one person, I’m talking about everybody. I’m talking about form. I’m talking about content. I’m talking about interrelationships. I’m talking about God, the devil, Heaven, Hell. Do you understand finally? Instant karma is going to get you so you better get yourself together, because pretty soon you are going to be dead. Free your mind and the body will follow. What is happening today is just the beginning. We are going to loose this war. Day by day I struggle to maintain not only my strength but also my sanity. It’s all a blur. I have no energy to write. I don’t know what’s right or wrong anymore. The morale of the men is low, a civil war in the platoon. Half the men with God, half with the devil. There’s a lot of suspicion and hate. I can’t believe we’re fighting each other, when we should be fighting evil. I’ve seen horrors… horrors that you’ve seen. But you have no right to call me a murderer. You have a right to kill me. You have a right to do that… but you have no right to judge me. It’s impossible for words to describe what is necessary to those who do not know what horror means. First you must learn to smile as you kill if you want to be like folks on the Hill. Horror has a face and you must make a friend of horror. Horror and moral terror are your friends. If they are not then they are enemies to be feared. They are truly enemies. And then I realized they were stronger than we. Because they could stand that these were not monsters. These were men and women, trained cadres. These men and women who fought with their hearts, who had families, who had children, who were filled with love, but they had the strength, the strength to fight to the last man or woman standing to protect their home, just as we would do. They’re not that different from you, are they? Same haircuts. Full of hormones, just like you. Invincible, just like you feel. The world is their oyster. They believe they’re destined for great things, just like many of you, their eyes are full of hope, just like you. Did they wait until it was too late to make from their lives even one iota of what they were capable? Because, you see gentlemen and gentlewomen, these boys and girls are now fertilizing daffodils. But if you listen real close, you can hear them whisper their legacy to you. Go on, lean in. Listen, you hear it? Carpe diem, seize the day boys and girls, make your lives extraordinary. I’m simply exercising my right not to walk. Can you smell the smoke in Iraq? No, money. I only know you got the wrong man. Information transit got the wrong man. I got the right man. The wrong one was delivered to me as the right man, I accepted him on good faith as the right man. Was I wrong? Listen, kid, we’re all in it together. It’s been confusion from the word go! Sorry, I’m a bit of a stickler for paperwork. Where would we be if we didn’t follow the correct procedures? I assure you, the government is very scrupulous about following up and eradicating any error. If you have any complaints which you’d like to make, I’d be more than happy to send you the appropriate forms. Bad sportsmanship. A ruthless minority of people seem to have forgotten good old-fashioned virtues. They just can’t stand seeing the other fellow win. If these people would just play the game… All I can say is don’t fall at the last fence. The finishing line is in sight. See you in the living room… keep your eye on the ball. This is information retrieval not information dispersal. There’s been a little complication with my complication. How do you account for the fact that the bombing campaign has been going on for thirteen years? Beginners’ luck. People say I am lazy, dreaming my life away, but then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible, logical, responsible, and practical. And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable, clinical, intellectual, and cynical. There are times when all the worlds asleep, the questions run too deep for such a simple man. Won’t you please, please tell me what we’ve learned I know it sounds absurd but please tell me who I am. Now watch what you say or they’ll be calling you a radical, Liberal, fanatical, criminal. Won’t you sign up your name, wed like to feel you’re acceptable, respectable, presentable, a vegetable! Can you fix it? No, I can’t. But, I can bypass it. No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world! You have to have men who are moral, and at the same time who are able to utilize their primordial instincts to give their last full measure of devotion, that we here, worldwide, highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation under God, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth. Oh God, I too have a dream today. And as the temperatures soar into the 70’s on Martin Luther King’s birthday, I see the writing on the wall. As we abuse the fossils of the dinosaurs before us, and pump greater and greater amount of carbon monoxide into the earth’s atmosphere, burning a hole in the ozone, and melting our ice caps, I know, for a God given fact, that unless we wake up, we too will be wiped from God’s great earth, and it will be exactly as it should. But it is not too late. We can stop killing Mother Eater. We don’t need to drop the bomb. We don’t need to trust the government. It is not just a waste of time. Our nightmares do not need to come true and we could someday have no fears as we fly and we sing. But there is something that I must say to my people, who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice: In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force. The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Negro community must not lead us to a distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny. And they have come to realize that their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom. We cannot walk alone. And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead. We cannot turn back. 44 years later we must heed this warning more than ever. As we fight for our God given right to the palace of Justice we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds or drink from the cup of bitterness and hatred. 44 years later we must still and forever conduct out struggle on the high plan of dignity and discipline, and most importantly, we must not allow our actions to denigrate into physical violence. Again and again when will knocked to the ground yet again, I deplore you never to raise your fists in anger, as we will not reach the mountaintop that way. Stand again and raise your voice, cry out, against injustice and unholy laws and wars, peacefully resist and prepare yourself to be knocked down again. Only in this manner will the government eventually be shamed into changing. Donate to inner city schools until the government is shamed into following suit. I can not and will not turn back. Today I declare the formation of the DC T Party. I have just created a non-violent organization which will fight, until the fight is done, for home rule, equal, just, and fair public schools, and an end to Taxation Without Representation. As Thomas Paine, God rest his soul, wrote in “Common Sense”, you can not tax a man and not give him representation in his governance. Common Sense ignited the American Revolution and common sense will ignite the DC Revolution. You can choose to not tax the people of DC and not let them be represented in our free government or you can tax them and let their voice and vote be heard, but you can not tax them without representation. This is not freedom, not democracy, not just, and not the American Way. This is so obvious to the core of foundation of our freedom, that no argument to defend it is needed. It is common sense. Therefore, I do declare that each January 1st from this day forward, and every January 1st until DC is free from the bonds of taxation without representation, the DC T Party will through the DC tax code into the Potomac River and peacefully protest our unjust laws by refusing to pay taxes. Muhammad gave up his crown, his possessions, his friends, his family, his popularity, his repudiation, his name, and his freedom for what he believed it. Mr. Ali would not kill defenseless babies on foreign soil of a nation engaged in tragic civil war. He was willing to give up absolutely everything, including his very freedom, for what he believed in. Then, he had the perseverance, wear with all, grit, and determination to win them all back. I am just following suit In WW2 thousands of Americans, hundreds of thousands of world citizens, and 20 million Russians died to stop Hitler and his army of hate which almost engulfed this world. American stood idly by for 10 years while he killed Jews, Gays, Liberals, and Gypsy’s, and did nothing. But we won because God was on our side. We were fighting with God for good against Evil. In Vietnam, that was no longer clear, and therefore we lost. We did not know if we were fighting for good with God as we were on foreign soil in the middle of another countries civil war. Today, we once again find ourselves on foreign soil, but this time we have invaded. We are occupying a foreign Nation in the name of God and stopping terrorism, but they did not attract us. There were no weapons of mass destruction. Are with fighting for good with God? Or are we in the middle of another countries civil war, yet again, this time fighting for oil or any other reason that is far from honorable? And so today I have had enough and will hold my tongue no more. The time is now. I solemnly declare that if drafted, I will refuse peacefully and go to jail. And I deplore all U.S. citizens, especially those without a voice to stop this madness, who are taxed without representation, to follow suit. Rise up in peaceful opposition to an unjust and unholy war. I will not fight on foreign soil of a nation we have invaded and are occupying in the thinly veiled claim of fighting terrorism when the truth lies in the profits of oil companies and the military industrial complex, and those that own and run them. I will not fight in your unholy war and I will not pay taxes without being represented. I have had enough. The DC T Party is now formed and will not stop peacefully fighting until DC and our very nation is once again free. Free from taxation without representation. And free from an unholy war on the foreign soil of a nation we invaded. We are giving the lives of our children and taking the lives of their children for this unjust and unholy cause. I can no longer sit idly by holding my tongue. Our children of the world are dying and I now stand a deliver. I deliver a powerful peaceful protest against what my God tells me are unjust and unholy laws. We must remember that Hitler never broke any laws in Germany. We must stand together and peacefully protest unjust laws until they are stricken from this nation of free men and women. I have had enough and today I am taking a stand. I am angry today my friends. I am not unmindful that some of you have come here out of great trials and tribulations. Some of you have come fresh from narrow jail cells. And some of you have come from areas where your quest — quest for freedom left you battered by the storms of persecution and staggered by the winds of police brutality. You have been the veterans of creative suffering. Continue to work with the faith that unearned suffering is redemptive. Go back to Mississippi, go back to Alabama, go back to South Carolina, go back to Georgia, go back to Louisiana, go back to the slums and ghettos of our northern cities, knowing that somehow this situation can and will be changed. Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends. I to am not unmindful that some of you have come to listen to me today out of great trials and tribulations, from your quest for freedom, and are battered by the storms of persecution and staggered by the winds of government oppression. I used to proudly say that America, unlike other countries, you can not disappear in the middle of the night and not be allowed to see a judge for years. This is no longer true in American. Mr. Jr. has cast aside the NATO Convention laws for our world and made a mockery of America. America used to stand for innocent until proven guilty, but no more. America use to stand for truth and justice, but no more. 44 years later America still strives to become a Nation under God, Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all. Are we there yet? Not even close. Are we even moving in the right direction? I am angry today my friends. 44 years after Martin Luther King Jr. prayed that someday people would be judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin, we are not even close. I would humbly add for my dream, that someday people across the globe will be judge by the content of their character and the merits of their accomplishments, and not by their skin color, race, religion, gender, age, or sexual orientation. I pray for a global meritocracy, where people are judged by their achievements and hard work and not by their number of years on the job or sphere of influence. 44 years later, 75% of boards of directors of U.S. companies are still 100% old, white men. No women, no minorities. Every American President, save two, where 100% Protestant men. This country was founded by men and women escaping religious persecution and looking for freedom. We still have not had a Jewish President, a Woman, a Minority, a Handicap, a Muslim, a Hindu, and an Atheist. The Presidency and Board of Directors do not reflect the wondrous melting pot of the most powerful country in the free world. I applaud and salute those who in the last 12 years have put their name, reputation, career, sweat, and tears on the line to break this glass ceiling of oppression. The first Jew ran for President and Vice President. The first Woman ran for President and Vice President The first Black Man and Black Woman ran for President. The first Jew ran for President and Vice President The first Jew ran for President and Vice President The first Jew ran for President and Vice President.. And although they all lost, they have now set the stage for others to pick up that torch and follow suit. And I sleep well knowing that they are out there considering picking up that torch as we speak. And I say to those young people who wonder if it could be them, why not you? You keep and nurture your dreams and care not what the naysayer say, as they always will. You keep yourself drug and alcohol free. You keep your side of the street clean. You check yourself everyday. Every 24 hour period, you check you actions, decisions, and thoughts and decide if your last day has made the world a better or worse place because of you and your life. I pray all World Citizens, myself included, as members of the world clique, begin to check themselves every day. When our infestisamal small moment of light and hope extinguishes on this planet, as it always will, and we live on, be it in Heaven or the ground, will you have done your part? Will you have made a difference? Will the world be a better, rather than worse, place to live for you and yours, your children and their children, for our world clique? I pray that the World hears my cries and opens their eyes today! I too have a dream today. I dream that we open our eyes to the 65,000 children who die every day to starvation! We go on and on about the 2,000 American lives lost on 9/11, who did, without a doubt, give their lives for our noble pursuit of world freedom. Their names have been added to the long list of Americans and United Nations citizens who paid the greatest price, with their lives and souls, so the rest of us could be free. But how can we ignore the 65,000 starving children who have died, every single day since, simple because they are world lives, and not American lives? Are we so blind? The African AIDS problem is our AIDS problem. The third world starvation problem is our starvation problem. When will we begin to care about world lives and not just American lives? I too have a dream today. “When occasionally it is not so at the moment (God has not provided the material wealth), then we must give God whatever we can, even a “pauper’s offering,” and then He gives generously.” We continue to spend billions a year on gambling and porn, alcohol, nicotine, and drugs, both prescription and illegal, as we turn a blind eye. Could we give $1/day, $365 a year to support a single starving child in part of the downtrodden world whose children suffer, be it white, black, yellow, red, or anywhere in between, straight or gay, Jew or Gentile, Muslim or Atheist? $30 a month can save a frail, tiny, human being who currently lies scared, sad, and emaciated, with no strength left to shoe away the flies, as their parents look on with eyes filled to the brim with tears and searching desperately for hope. I pray and deplore today that you ask yourself what else you so callously spend $30 a month on. Gambling? Shopping? Eating out? Entertainment? Porn? Drugs? Alcohol? Nicotine? Anti-depressants? Can the haves any longer ignore the have nots? Can you make a difference 1 day at a time? I know I can and I know I will. I too have a dream today. Our press continues to feed us sewage about our invasion and war in the search for Oil, power, and control at the expense of our so called enemy and our young men and women’s lives, but ignore reporting on Dafor, and the Genocide that continues to rage every day, supported by a corrupt and evil government. They fail to report on the other injustice, genocide, false Imprisonment, civil and human rights abuses that occur worldwide everyday, but are ignored in the name of profits from trade and oil. They fail to report on our colossal failed school system, where the inequities of separate and unequal continue to be passed off as equal. They fail to report on our lack of an ever so small, global social safety net, and the economics behind such a net that would actually have a Positive Expectation, and save trillions of dollars, and put a stop to the cycle of pain and despair, depression and the domino effect costs of crime. If we gave those who needing a helping hand, not just temporary housing, but medical care for their families, training and education, and got them back into the system, the money saved by not having to support them the rest of their lives is staggering. The crimes they would not commit and the domino costs of imprisoning them and helping their victims would be over. Their lives of pain and despair could be replaced with lives of pride and happiness, and it makes economic sense. We would save magnitudes of money by having a small, temporary social safety net, but the media fails to report on this as well. They fail to report of the inequities of our Board of Directors and executive positions nationwide. They fail to report of the colossal failure of our wars, war for oil, war on drugs, and war for the hearts and minds of the world’s free men and women. They fail to report that in 2006, 95% of violent crime had alcohol on the scene. That fail to report that alcohol and nicotine take more lives than all other drugs combined. They fail to report that adjusting for inflation, the two highest oil prices in US history have been under Mr. Senior and Mr. Junior, the two oil families who rule the world. They fail to report that the two largest contributors to the last Bush campaign where Oil Companies and the Military Industrial Complex, and the two biggest winners of the Iraqi Invasion and Occupation, are OIL COMPANIES AND THE MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX. They fail to report that Bush last year declared that 10% of US Fuel Production must be Hydro Ethanol by 2010, and the Number #1 Producer of Hydro Ethanol is Halliburton. They fail to report that under Bush the super rich, elitist top 1% of this great land, push past 90% of this countries wealth and head ever so higher. They fail to report that tax loopholes and mean spirited, unjust laws, allow the upper class, men, women, and corporations to get out of doing their Fair Share. To help those that need it most. They fail to report that Gore’s pledge to mandate car companies produce cars that get 40 MPG and search for alternative fuels, both geared to reduce DEMAND for Oil, have fallen aside with the help of the Governor and Secretary of State of Florida, to increasing the SUPPLY of Oil, at the highest costs possible, our land in Alaska and other environmental treasures, and most importantly and tragically through the young lives that and taken everyday in Iraq. They fail to report that a plane did not hit the Pentagon, as a ten foot hole, no debris, no engines, and no proof simply do not fly. They fail to report that 65,000 children of God died today. They have failed. But it is not too late, for while I am angry, I too have a dream today. Like the Constitution of the United States of American, it heads for Perfection, but is never perfect. So I pray that God helps me to stay strong, stay proud, stay clean and sober, and stay free to carry on the battle to head this world to perfection and to head my body, heart, and soul towards perfection, one day at a time. We can make the world a better place for the brotherhood and sisterhood of man and our children’s children, one day at a time. Do we have one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all? Not even close. Do we have a nation where you are judged by the content of your character, and not by the color of your skin, race, religion, creed, gender, or sexuality? Not even close. Do we have a country with a fair and just government with transparency of action, corruption free that is of the people, by the people, and for the people? Not even close. To we have Washington, D.C. as a shiny example of freedom and democracy for the world, with equal and just schools, a social safety net, and taxation without representation? Not even close. Most powerful man in the free world and a homeless bum on the same block. And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.” I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood. I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today! I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of “interposition” and “nullification” — one day right there in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers. I have a dream today! I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight; “and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together.” This is our hope, and this is the faith that I go back to the South with. With this faith, we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith, we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith, we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day. And this will be the day — this will be the day when all of God’s children will be able to sing with new meaning: My country ’tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, land of the Pilgrim’s pride, From every mountainside, let freedom ring! And if America is to be a great nation, this must become true. And so let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire. Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York. Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania. Let freedom ring from the snow-capped Rockies of Colorado. Let freedom ring from the curvaceous slopes of California. But not only that: Let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia. Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee. Let freedom ring from every hill and molehill of Mississippi. From every mountainside, let freedom ring. And when this happens, when we allow freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual: Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last! And so, on this 17th day of January, 2007 I declare war. I declare war on the rich, the elitist, the influential, and the powerful, who fail to do their fair share and give back 1/10 or more to those who are in need. Who turn a blind eye to the have nots when they have so much. I declare war on organized religion, as greater than 90% of murder in world history has been in the name of some organized religions God. Now please don’t get me wrong, personal religion is a beautiful thing, and charity is a great thing, but it can be accomplished by the individual. I declare a non-violent, peaceful resistance, war on the government, who turns a blind eye to genocide, corruption, and civil and human rights abuses worldwide, in the name of profits from trade and oil. I declare war on the press who turns a blind eye to the true perils of our time in the name of popularity and profit. Under Clinton, they ignored Dafur but reported every single day on a moment of his human weakness. He transmogrified this nation from the Worlds greatest Debtor that Bush Sr. created, into the World Biggest Lender. Helping the poor, downtrodden, and middle class who deserve a chance at the American Dream. Now Bush Jr. has once again turned us from the biggest lender back to the biggest borrower, and as we waste billions in interest, that could help save this world,
